OUR RICH AND VARIED CULTURAL HERITAGE HAS A PROFOUND POWER TO HELP BUILD OUR NATION

UNESCO INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE

Cultural heritage does not end at monuments and collections of objects. It also includes traditions or living expressions inherited from our ancestors and passed on to our descendants, such as oral traditions, performing arts, social practices, rituals, festive events, knowledge and practices concerning nature and the universe or the knowledge and skills to produce traditional crafts.

“A nation’s culture resides in the hearts and in the souls of its people” (-M K Gandhi)

A sense of ownership and responsibility within people is the key driving factor for any culture to stay intact and alive. When one’s attachment and affinity towards his/her culture fades or shifts, it imposes a greater threat and loss. Educating people and creating awareness is as crucial and significant as conserving and protecting the heritage. Especially the young generation, who will be our successors to carry forward this notion, must be well prepared and enlightened about their roots and values. Heritage is an archive, on human culture, belief and symbolism, missing even a tiniest part of it may mislead the entire legacy and the forecoming future.
